Since my blog is so tech-centric I figured I'd start a place for all the little personal things going on.

Paint

All the paint on the canvas these days lands in a pattern.  Or maybe it’s just me seeing patterns where there are none.  But isn’t that all a pattern is, a self-created, self-perceived organization identified over a period of time?

I’m not painting, I’m paint-throwing.  Ergo, consistency.

Very Best Work

Run in the cold and let the chill bite me.  For them.  For her.

A command, “Attack!”

Feel the bites of a thousand inanimate abstract killers.  They are everything.  They did.

Let out a sob, the deepest, loudest, gasp in despair.  Blink through the tears to put on my sweater to fight off the cold.

Please don’t let them hear me.  Run away for shame of the noise.  Don’t let me cause anyone to stress over me.

The last tears fall away and the sob ebbs.

How could I be ashamed of a sob like that?  It is magnificent.  It is my very best work.

Because I can - My translation of the Google Blog Post in Latin

I Came, I Saw, I Translated

(An Amateur Translation of the Latin Post on Googleblog found here http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/veni-vidi-verba-verti.html? )

As we have developed linguistic tools and invented means of opening up knowledge about our world, we have created instruments of converting between the languages of many countries.  Today we announce the first tool of conversion for the language which no one now speaks natively: Latin.  While few today speak Latin, every year hundreds of thousands of American students take on a broad study of Beginner Latin.  Meanwhile many students around the world study Latin.

This unusual translation tool will allow Latin to be used to convert email or to understand subtitles on Youtube videos.  Moreover, many antique books on philosophy, physics, and mathematics are written in the Latin language.  Indeed, there are many thousands of texts on Google Books which are labeled with location names clearly in Latin.

To translate from Latin with computational tools is difficult and we should realize our grammar is not without blame.  However Latin is singled out because so many books have already been written in Latin and few new Latin books will be written going forward.  Many are translated into other languages and by means of these we can figure out for ourselves how our tools should translate.  While this tool translates easily from books that are similar to the ones we used, our contribution should be in translating those heralded books (such as Caesar’s Commentaries on the Gallic Wars) which are already great.

Google’s Automagic Translation:

I came, I saw, I translated the words

9/30/2010 12:01:00 AMThat language barriers be torn away and the knowledge of the world is made accessible and useful, translation systems of many languages of the nations were created by us. Today, we announce the first language translation system by which no native speakers now make use of: the Latin. Being but a few speak Latin daily, year by year more than a hundred thousand American students receive the National Latin Exam. Besides many people all over the world study Latin.

This Latin translation system rarely be used to translate e-mails or epigrams YouTube imageunderstand. But many that are ancient books of philosophy , of physics and of mathematicsare written in Latin. But many thousands of books in Google Books are those who have whole passages in Latin.

Translating by machine from Latin is difficult and our grasp of grammar not without error. The Latin is unmatched because most of them Latin books have already been written and only a few of the new shall be hereafter. Many have been translated into other languages and these translations we use to train our translation system. Since this system translates books well similar to those from whom he learned, our ability to translate famous books (such as The Gallic War Caesar ‘s) is already good.

The next time you find a Latin passage or you need help with the Latin writings, try this .

To Fail

There is a future me in a world where I become wealthy and well-known.

I see that future me kneeling at the grave of the other future me, who failed to live up to a standard because she spent so many hours of the day dreaming and loving and cooking.

To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal …
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance …
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.

“Sorry for myself”

Lonely again, and confused.  This is the first time I’ve wanted to lay down on a patch of sand and let my body fade into it as the waves wash up.  So confused.  And sorry.
